Services

The Sault Ste. Marie Innovation Centre (SSMIC) offers GIS consulting services based on the impressive expertise of its GIS team. In 2000, the SSMIC formed the Community Geomatics Centre (CGC) to assist the City of Sault Ste. Marie and the Public Utilities Commission (PUC) in the efficient retrieval, reproduction and analysis of spatially related municipal and utilities infrastructure. The CGC developed an award-winning Integrated Geomatics Model, touted the most comprehensive in Canada, to support multiple applications.

  • GIS Implementation
  • Network Planning and Architecture
  • Building Community Partnerships
  • GIS Web Applications

Since its inception, the CGC has built on its expertise and expanded to provide services to health and human service providers and a number of other organizations interested in the potential of GIS. The CGC municipal/utility model has been implemented by other municipalities and can be used by virtually any municipality and public utility application and applied to their needs. Our highly experienced consultants will provide your organization with strategic planning to ensure that your current and future information systems needs are met efficiently and effectively.

  • Health and Social Services
Most health problems have a geographic context and understanding issues ranging from medical epidemiology to healthcare access in that context can enhance research, save money and improve service delivery. GIS provides the tools and a common analytical framework in which health agencies can build that understanding and realize those
    benefits.

The CGC has partnered with health and social agencies to improve the health of the communities by adding health and social data to the community's municipal GIS dataset. Early results indicate improvements in public safety, reductions in municipal liabilities and more effective use of budgetary resources.

For most health and social related organizations data is abundant but hard to analyze in list, spreadsheet or database format. Simply looking at numbers does not tell the whole story. GIS is used as a tool to analyze these issues geographically. By viewing data spatially health and social related organizations can better develop and target programs.
