Destiny Sault Ste. Marie (2009)

Annual Progress Report (2009)

In 2008 Destiny SSM put a lot of time into developing an indicator framework that incorporates key community indicators. The purpose of this project was to combine that framework with the data collection and reporting expertise of SSMIC. Data for the report was first collected, presented in a graphical manner, leading to the creation of a comprehensive report template to be used annually. Text pieces were provided by both Destiny SSM and an economist and integrated into this report.

Industry Sector Analysis (2009)

Labor force analysis by age and industry was completed for Destiny SSM. The first part of the project included a report showing the breakdown of the age cohorts between 45 and 64 years by Industry Group and representing this information both graphically and in table format. This was done for both the Census Subdivision and the Census Metropolitan Area of Sault Ste. Marie. It was done to determine when people are possibly going to retire, to identify industries that may be hiring within the next 5 to 10 years and to determine what type of employees they may need.

The second part of the project was the analysis of occupations by industry. It compared the percentage of labour force in each industry group across Sault Ste. Marie, Thunder Bay, North Bay, Timmins, Greater Sudbury, Ottawa and Toronto. This also provided a historical perspective on changes within the local employment using data from 2001 and 2006 census.
