Northern Ontario e-Health ICT Project (2008)

Client: Northern Ontario e-Health Office

Project: Northern Ontario e-Health ICT Planning Survey Analysis and Mapping

The Northern Ontario e-Health Office completed a forty nine question Information and Communication Technology (ICT) survey of over two hundred health care providers in the North West and North East LHINs. The survey gathered information about the staffing, project management capabilities and experience, status of e-Health projects, willingness and capability to share approaches and resources, status of IT resources, software, equipment, network connections and standards, status of data sharing and status of privacy and security processes and policies.

The Community Geomatics Centre was contracted to analyze the survey results by health care sector and by health planning area. The goal was to identify strengths, gaps and capabilities by sector and by area to assist in planning for future e-Health projects. GIS was used to create a geographic perspective and to more easily visualize the results over an area making up about eighty percent of Ontario.
