With the demand for IT talent growing in Sault Ste. Marie, The Sault Ste Marie Innovation Centre (SSMIC) is partnering with Cisco to deliver online learning programs with technology innovation and insights to support IT job growth in our community. An online course library at https://ssmic.com/elearning/   (entrepreneurship and technology links) has been set up for applicants to choose their desired courses with a goal of earning a certificate at the end of the completed course. The self-paced programs offered is currently available and will be free for applicants wanting to participate.

Be Your Own Boss

The Be Your Own Boss Series provides the guidelines, insights, and advice needed to launch successful technical ventures. The series features video presentations by entrepreneurs from around the world who share lessons learned on their journey to success.

Entrepreneurship

Entrepreneurship supplements the ICT skills gained in CCNA R&S curriculum by teaching business and financial skills, behaviors, and attitudes, to help students develop an entrepreneurial mindset. Students learn by completing a series of interactive case studies.

Introduction to IoT

Introduction to the Internet of Things (IoT) is a self-paced, 20-hour course. It provides an overview of the concepts and opportunities in Digital Transformation. This course introduces the concept of a network foundation connecting billions of things and trillions of gigabytes of data to enhance decision making and interactions.

Introduction to Cybersecurity

This course explores the field of cybersecurity, specifically the importance of cybersecurity, data confidentiality, best practices for using the internet and social media safely, and potential career opportunities in this growing field.

Cybersecurity Essentials

Through interactive, multimedia content, lab activities, and multi-industry case studies, students build technical and professional skills to pursue careers in cybersecurity. Learn procedures to implement data confidentiality, integrity, availability and security controls on networks, servers and applications. Understand security principles and how to develop security policies that comply with cybersecurity laws. Apply skills through practice, using labs and Cisco Packet Tracer activities.

NDG Linux Unhatched

This course (in partnership with NDG) exposes new learners to the basics of Linux software installation and configuration, and introduces the Linux command line in a short 8-hour, self-paced course. Aligned to the Linux exam objectives found on the CompTIA A+ certification, learners develop basic Linux knowledge and whet appetite to further build Linux expertise by continuing with either NDG Linux Essentials or NDG Linux I.

NDG Linux Essentials

This course, developed and supported by Networking Academy partner NDG, teaches students the fundamentals of the Linux operating system and command line, and basic open source concepts. By the end of this course, students will be able to: Understand how Linux is used and the basics of the command line; Apply skills using Linux virtual machine with step-by-step and hands-on lab activities; Build foundational knowledge for progressively mastering Linux commands.

Mobility Fundamentals

Wireless and mobility technologies are essential skills for a career in networking during today's digital transformation and economy. The Mobility Fundamentals course provides foundational wireless knowledge and skills.
