New Audiobook Learning Platform Launches – ListenerU

July 12, 2022

A new Sault Ste. Marie startup could change the way you learn and read books, while making professional and personal development easy and rewarding.

Brent Rouble, a local geoscientist (P.Geo), entrepreneur, and member of the StartUP Sault Ste. Marie board of directors, is trying to make quality learning more affordable and accessible through ListenerU, a multi-platform app that provides education through audiobooks.

ListenerU combines the best aspects of Audible (a popular audiobook app) with Udemy (an app that offers short online certificate courses). The platform offers certificate courses based on a current library of over 10,000 audiobooks, with thousands more to come. As a certified Canadian educational institution, Canadian members could qualify for up to 50% cash back when they file their income tax, making ListenerU one of the most affordable audiobook/educational companies in North America.

Brent hopes this app will someday help thousands of people reach their personal and professional goals. “We are starting with just audiobooks, but we hope to partner with post-secondary institutions and other subject matter experts in the future who can contribute to our educational audio content and empower them to sell their own courses and audio content. As an example, an expert in health and safety could record audio content to create a Health & Safety course. If a college wanted to generate profitable, quality content to educate potential students about a program, ListenerU is a perfect fit”.

To complete a certificate, ListenerU subscribers simply join a course, purchase and listen to the audiobooks in the course, then write a short review for each audiobook. This means you can now take courses while commuting to work, walking the dog, or cleaning the house, among other daily activities.

“We are trying to expand the audiobook and educational spaces to make them more accessible to everyone, no matter what their situation is”, says Brent.

Audiobook courses are an affordable way for people with dyslexia, visual impairments, multitaskers, or busy professionals who love learning or need to complete continuing education hours, while getting recognition for that time spent, without breaking the bank or disrupting their daily life. Completing certificate courses in your spare time can also be a valuable way to show employers your commitment to continuous education.

ListenerU officially launched on the Apple and Google App Stores in July, and will be having giveaways and announcing charity donation goals throughout the summer. You can find them at www.listeneru.com, on LinkedInFacebook, and Instagram.

ListenerU was proudly created and developed in Sault Ste. Marie with the assistance of the Sault Ste. Marie Innovation Center’s Innovation Accelerator Program (IAP).

The Sault Ste. Marie Innovation Centre (SSMIC) has launched the Northern Ontario Value-Added Agriculture (NOVA) Program to empower agri-food entrepreneurs across Northern Ontario to develop new food products. By offering workshops, training sessions, networking events, and a mentorship program, NOVA aims to equip Northern entrepreneurs with the essential skills and knowledge needed for long-term business growth and sustainability. Supported by $42,080 in funding from the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Agribusiness, NOVA will address the critical need for professional development in the agri-food sector. It focuses on enhancing entrepreneurial skills, improving safety and risk management practices, and providing strategies to expand market presence at home and abroad. “The agri-food promise and potential of Northern Ontario is immense, and our government will continue to work with Northern partners like the SSMIC to help seize it,” said Rob Flack, Minister of Agriculture, Food and Agribusiness. “NOVA will help unlock more of the huge untapped entrepreneurial energy and ambition of Northern agri-food entrepreneurs to build strong local businesses, create good-paying jobs and strengthen Northern Ontario’s economy.” Program goals include strengthened business capabilities, job creation, and increased economic activity, leading to a more vibrant and sustainable agri-food sector in Northern Ontario.
